The rank is that of a Mairnéalach Abalta (able seaman) identified by the two red chevrons on the lower right-hand sleeve, and the branch of service is that of Communications identified by the badge on the left shoulder sleeve, there is no indication of ship or establishment identification as with other Navy’s of the world possibly due to the small size of the Southern Irish Navy Approximately 900 men.
