The 68th Inf Battalion served as peacekeepers in Lebanon, between Nov 1990 - April 1991, the rank is that of a Saighdiur (Private) 1st class identified by the three red stars worn on both sleeves. This Private is a member of the 68th Irish Battalion as denoted by the shoulder title, also pictured is the Irish national flash worn on the left shoulder sleeve adopted on Jan 1st 1988.

71st Irish Battalion UN Contingent UNIFIL Lebanon

The 71st Battalion served in Lebanon between May 1992 - Oct 1992, the  rank is that of a Ceannaire (Corporal) identified by the two red zigzag chevrons worn on both sleeves, This Corporal is a member of the 71st Irish Battalion as denoted by the shoulder title

(the blue beret, metal beret badge, cravat and UN shoulder sleeve badge are standard issue for all nations performing peacekeeping duties)
