Kepis of a Legionnaire from the 1950s - 1960s

France Foreign Legion Kepi Legionnaire 1er REC (Front Green Greade)

Here are two Legionnaires kepis of the 1950s-1960s, the white removable cover with neck flap synonymous with the legionnaire would usually be worn with this type of kepi.

I believe the kepi with the green grenade was worn by cavalry units and the red grenade was worn by all other units

This is a Legion NCO’s Kepi this model of kepi was worn in the 1950s-60s, it is of the non cavalry type.(indicated by the gold seven flamed grenade and chin-strap buttons). the only deference between this kepi and the other ranks kepi of this era is that this model has a metal badge as opposed to a sewn in version, and the white removable cover would not usually be worn

Kepi of a Legionnaire of the 1er Regiment d’Cavaliere from around the 1970s, This style of kepi with the tan body was only used for a very short period, I believe it was designed to by worn by the legion when serving in the desert

Probably the best known kepi in the world is that of a Legionnaire, this example is the current version from a non cavalry unit of the Legion indicated by the gold buttons,

The rank is identified by the false plain black chin-strap and the white (blanc) body colour of the kepi

This is a Kepi Blanc of a Corporal Chef of a non cavalry regiment of the Legion, Indicated by the gold braid on the chin-strap and the gold chin-strap buttons, the chin-strap is usually only worn with tenu traditional worn on parades and guard duty etc, this venison of the Kepi Blanc is also worn by other senior ranks of the legion for some ceremonial duties such as colour parties for the Camerone day celebrations etc.

Adjudant from a non cavalry unit identified by the silver and red flecked braid band around the brim of the kepi there is also a quatrefoil of the same type of braid on the top of the kepi.

Sous-Lieutenant from the 1er Régiment Étranger de Cavalerie unit is Identified by the silver embroidered seven flamed grenade and silver chinstrap the rank by the single gold band around the kepi brim and  gold quatrofil on its crown

Capitaine from a non cavalry unit, the rank is identified by the three gold braid bands around the main body of the kepi.

This is a Kepi with the rank of Capitaine, but with the addition of the traditional removable white cover, the removable neck flap is not shown,
