Royal Air Force Bandsman Uniform

UK RAF Bandsman Blues (1)

This is the full dress uniform worn by a Senior Air craftsman up until 2012 when the Busby was removed from service in favour of the (No-9 dress cap) and further changes where made to the rest of the uniform in 2018 to mark the centenary of the RAF.

The rank is indicated by the crossed propeller badge worn on both upper sleeves, and trade by the musician badges worn on both sleeve cuffs

UK RAF Bandsman Blues (2)

 The No 9 dress is worn by musicians on all formal ceremonial occasions as authorised by MOD (Air) Comprising of Busby (now replaced by SD cap), Tunic, Trousers, Medals Full size court mounted, Cape or Greatcoat if ordered, Socks Black, Aiguillettets and shoulder knots.

01 RAF Band Whites

Musician wearing No 11 dress ceremonial warm weather areas white uniform pre 2012, This example has no rank or trade insignia fitted, if worn they would be of gold bullion thread on white backing and normally be fastened with press studs or Velcro, for easy removal for washing.

03 RAF Band Whites

 No 11 dress is worn in warm weather areas by all personnel, on all formal and ceremonial occasions, as authorised by MOD (Air). Composition as per No 9 Dress with the exception of cape and greatcoat.

This is a No 6 Service Dress warm weather areas (Tropical Dress) a Flight Lieutenant indicated by the rank on the shoulder boards, this example also bears the qualification half wing of a Navigator, this uniform is dated 1965, also worn with this uniform is the No 1 service dress peaked cap

No 6 dress Comprising of: Cap No 1 SD, Tunic No 6 SD Stone colour, Trousers, No 6 SD Stone, Shirt: Long sleeve stone, Tie: Black, Shoes, Black Oxford (Officers) DMS for other ranks and Socks, Black.

UK RAF Sergeant No 1 Dress (1)

This is a No-1 Service Dress uniform of a sergeant of the RAF indicated by the three chevrons worn on both sleeves, this style of uniform is from around the 1980s the modern equivalent  would have albatross insignia worn on both upper shoulder sleeves, this example is wearing the pale blue duty sash and white belt and locket belt buckle worn for passing out parades and other ceremonial  duties

No 1 Dress Consisting off : Hat: No 1 SD,   Jacket: No 1 SD,  Trousers, Shirt: Issue Long sleeve Wedgwood Blue Tie: Black Issue. Shoes, highly polished Oxfords for officers and WOs, DMS for other ranks. Coat: Greatcoat if required or ordered. Gloves: Brown leather for officers and WOs - white if sword is carried. If ordered, other ranks wear black issue leather Gloves

This is a No 5 mess dress of a RAF sergeant, a service dress cap can be worn with this uniform (Left ) but only outdoors, officers would have dress shoulder boards, miniature medals and half size wings cam be worn

This is a Service Dress uniform of a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Police, the obvious difference between the RAF police and standard RAF uniform is the white topped SD Cap and the RAFP armlet
